Step 1

Head to Materials under the Global Settings tab.

In this example, we’re going to take material item #6 Flat Washer (Pack of 50), and convert it into packs of 10.

The pack of 50 purchased from your supplier, is called the “parent item” and the pack of 10 you will sell to customers is referred to as the “child item.”

Step 2

First, set up the child item. Do this by cloning the parent item, and then editing the details.

Let’s name it #6 Flat Washer (Pack of 10).

Step 3

Go back to the parent item and click the Conversion button.

Select Add Child Item, and type in or search for the child item created.

Step 4

Next, enter the quantity of child items you want each parent item to be converted to. If you want each pack of 50 washers to be converted in to packs of 10, enter "5" here.

You can also opt to automatically convert the packs of 50 into child items on receipt of the purchase order.

Step 5

Once you click Save, this screen appears.

Choose how many parent items from each location you want to convert.

Let’s convert 10 in the Main Warehouse.

Step 6

After clicking Convert, go to your child item in the materials list. The stock level has changed from 0 to 50 because 10 packs of 50 washers have been converted into 50 packs of 10 washers.

The parent item’s stock level will also change based on the quantity converted.

Note:

You can only convert if both parent and child items are Unmanaged or Managed. I.e. you cannot convert between an Unmanaged parent item and a Managed child item and vice versa.

It is possible to convert to a batched child item from a non-batched parent item. However it is not possible to convert to a non-batched child item from a batched parent item.
